Blue Agerate
Ageratum conyzoides
Putara is an herbaceous plant from naturalized modern introduction that can be found on Marquesas Islands, along the paths or in abandoned areas. When crushing the leaves, there is a strong characteristic smell, smelling like goat for Europeans. That is why it was nicknamed “Goat weed” by English people. With its very rich composition, Blue Agerate is locally very appreciated: it is used in traditional pharmacopeia as well as in cosmetic for its numerous properties and for its smell.
