The famous blue lagoons are surrounded by the wonderful coral reefs which make Polynesia the paradisiac place by excellence. Over time, the processes of natural erosion due to the ocean movements, are crumbling coral and small shells in ocean bottom.

It is partly stranding on the shores of the island, but a large quantity remains into the coral reef, and block off the ways between lagoon and ocean. It is thus necessary to remove these particles to maintain the flow. This «Coral soup» which is then collected, is locally used for many industrial purposes.
